Security screenings, clear bag rule in effect for board meetings and events at high school arenas, stadiums

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – As part of Lexington Two’s commitment to the safety of students, families, employees, and community members, the district conducts security screenings and clear bag requirements at board meetings and for events at its high school arenas and stadiums.

Metal detectors: All attendees will be asked to follow instructions of the security screening staff at the board meeting or event site, and only clear bags will be allowed at board meeting venues, and in stadiums and arenas.  Spectators will be asked to individually walk through the metal detector, which will beep if a metal object is detected.  Anyone with a prohibited item will be asked to take the item back to a vehicle before being permitted into the stadium or arena. ANSWER: Metal detectors are safe for all individuals, including children, pregnant women, and adults with most medical implants or devices. People with concerns about passing through the walk-through metal detectors should check with their doctor prior to event day. If you choose not to use the walk-through metal detector and need special medical accommodations, please ask screening staff if you can be screened with a handheld device.

QUESTION: What if people don’t want to pass through metal detectors?

ANSWER: People with concerns about passing through the walk-through metal detectors will still be subject to screening with a hand-held metal detector wand.
