Lexington Two learned this week that file cabinets located in the basement of the former Pair Elementary School that were inadvertently overlooked during the clearing out process may have been accessed by someone during demolition of the building. Based on our research, it was determined that those cabinets contained student records dating to 1963 that had been stored in the basement, as well as some old papers with no significance. The district presently is determining the last date that student records were housed in the basement and will update this notification once that date is known.
Immediately upon learning of the incident, the District secured all of the records. There are plans to appropriately review and destroy records with the supervision of the district office as soon as all items can be reviewed.
Because student records may contain confidential and sensitive information, we wanted to notify our families of this incident. We have no reason to believe that sensitive information was accessed by anyone for any improper reason.
However, if you have questions or concerns, please contact Brian Chatman, chief operations officer, at (803) 739-4083 or [email protected].
Thank you.
