Superintendent's Message

Dear Lexington Two Stakeholders:
I can’t believe November is here, and we’re just six weeks away from winter break! I will say, we are coming into one of the best times of the year, especially for students.  As educators, we know the importance not only of leading rigorous academics and learning every day inside the classroom, but of seeking opportunities for our students to develop and showcase their interests and talents, and experience leadership and service – all critical for life and career success. In November and December, these kinds of opportunities are abundant in Lexington Two. A few examples:

      - This community supports our schools in so many ways, and we’re always looking for opportunities to give back.  Just last month, our high school students invited community families to their annual Halloween events: Airport’s Trick or Treat Lane and Brookland-Cayce’s Trunk or Treat. These two events drew more than 3,000 attendees from the community! In November, our schools will honor area veterans with breakfasts, parades, and student performances for Veterans Day – plus, the district is hosting Fort Jackson’s 282D Army Band for a free public concert on November 11 at our new Lexington Two Performing Arts Center. Click this link for details on our Veterans Day events.  Save these dates, too, for our high school holiday events for community families: Airport’s Winter Fest (December 6), and Brookland-Cayce’s Winter Wonderland (December 10).
     - Speaking of giving back, November and December are some of the busiest for donation drives organized by student organizations across the district. Coming on the heels of drives to help Hurricane Helene victims, Lexington Two students are now organizing collections of canned goods and nonperishable foods, blankets, toys, socks, gloves, and more. Donations are welcome from community and business organizations, churches, as well as area residents, so check with schools for details.  Northside Middle School just wrapped up a unique event that encourages acts of kindness and fills community needs; click this link to read more about the Day of Caring and the school’s WEB student organization.
     - Nothing captures the spirit of the season more joyfully than seeing the talents of our Lexington Two students on display. This time of year, our student athletes are trading fall’s footballs, running shoes, volleyballs, and tennis rackets for the winter sports of basketball, wrestling, and bowling. In the arts, our school stages and the district Performing Arts Center are chock full of musical performances by strings, orchestra, and choral students, while our youngest students will be gearing up for elementary school sing-a-longs and creating holiday drawings and paintings.  Lexington Two students and employees also love sharing their pride in our communities, so look for them marching in town parades and singing at town tree lightings in the holiday season.

Schedules will be hectic, no doubt, as there is a lot of work ahead to wrap up a strong finish to the academic period before winter break. Still, when you are part of the Lexington Two family, there is always something to enjoy and be thankful for – especially our students, families, employees, and community. Thank you for all you do to support Lexington Two.

Warmly,

Brenda Hafner, Ed.D.
